the designer this week - 3 October 2022

This week let’s take a look at the Dovecote House by Atelier Andy Carson, Design Show and Hegi Design House

OUR ROUNDUP THIS WEEK:

I was a no-show last week. Sorry!

My dog didn’t eat my homework, but he did roll in wombat poop and my computer blew up. So that was that! It took me all this week to get back to speed on my new Apple Studio. It’s pretty awesome- downloading video in a flash. I wish uploading to YouTube took a little less time. Guess general computer awesomeness doesn’t count.

DESIGN INSPO

Dovecote House by Atelier Andy Carson

I’ve been looking at this house for years as it is just down the road from me. I have to say- I don’t love it. I think it spoils the view and is not in keeping with the surroundings. I think nearly everyone who lives here agrees. However, I’m definitely in the minority. The house won House of the Year in 2019. But is it the house or the magnificent views?

Set in beautiful green fields with an amazing view of the water, this house is available for holidays. You can check out the website here and lots more photos if these tickle your fancy.

DESIGN SHOW AUSTRALIA

Denfair has rebranded and is now known as the Design Show Australia. Held in Sydney at the ICC, the organisers are promising a bigger and brighter show with more brands and glitz. Looking at the exhibitor list, there seems to be a wide range- from well-known brands to ones that I have never heard of. I’m looking forward to checking it out. As you know it takes something exciting to drag me away from my studio!

HEGI DESIGN HOUSE

I came across Hegi Design House on Instagram. Cool reels, guys! Based here in Gerringong (this has been a bit of a local issue)- they make cool sculptural furniture that designers love!! They take huge blocks of wood and transform them into globes, or gorgeous Rubelli velvet and tightly curve it around cylindrical shapes. These are pieces that are highly unusual but maybe too sculptural to sit upon? You’ll also have to save your pennies- the prices are eye-watering but I guess it’s handmade…I think I will have to enjoy from afar.

The latest Notion videos:

I am just about to upload the fourth instalment of the Notion for Interior Designers series. We have built out the portal, created a few databases, l earnt how to link them together. I will be moving onto operating procedures next week, and then we will be looking at the client side of Notion.

ON THE BLOG:

I talked through the ideas behind the Notion design hub. You can read it here.

I wrote about the long journey I have had to becoming a designer. It’s been difficult but fun!

As I mentioned before- the computer blew up but I’m heading back into content creation this week.

Check out our courses on branding and websites specifically for interior designers just like you who want to start and scale up their interior design businesses.
