Five effective Marketing strategies for your interior design business

Tired of depending on social media to do all the heavy lifting in marketing your interior design business?   In this blog post, I will discuss five strategies to market your business in addition to posting on Instagram.

Tip Number 1: Develop a solid online presence outside your Instagram or Facebook account.   Start with a professional website that showcases your portfolio, services, and design philosophy.   Write copy and blog posts that drive SEO. Repurpose those long-form posts for social media.   Optimise your website for search engines by using keywords aligned with your content pillars. Keep your content up-to-date to attract potential clients by reviewing your posts at least once yearly and updating them. Utilise other platforms such as Pinterest and YouTube to share your work, connect with other designers, and engage with your audience.

Tip Number 2: ‘Always be marketing’ is a popular refrain in the interior design industry.   Another saying is ‘Network, network, network’. Building relationships with other professionals in the industry, such as architects, builders, and decorators, is critical to growing your business. Attend trade shows, join industry groups in your locality and industry, and participate in local events to meet new people and make valuable connections. Though you don’t want to hard-sell anyone on social occasions, don’t forget to tell everyone you meet what you do and how you help others.

Tip Number 3: Get high-quality images of your work to use in every touchpoint.    High-quality images are essential in showcasing your work to potential clients. Invest in professional photography and videography to capture your projects in the best possible light. Use these images to create a portfolio and share them on your website, social media, and other marketing materials.  Include a clause in your contract that allows you to use these images in your marketing, with identities and locations hidden.

Tip Number 4: Ensure that your consultations add value.  Ensuring that you add significant value in your paid consultation is a great way to help new clients and showcase your expertise. Use these consultations to build a rapport with potential clients, understand their needs and preferences, and present your design ideas.  You can leave the client with written notes about your discussion.  Include images and sketches that can help your client visualise your ideas.     Check out this blog post about how to run a consultation effectively and land that client.

Tip Number 5: If you have served your past clients well, they will be happy †o refer your services to their friends and acquaintances.   To keep your services top of mind, remind your client at specific points that you are around and working.   I send my clients gifts to commemorate birthdays and other significant occasions.   I have an email template that I have sent out to past clients, asking them to refer me to their friends and colleagues.   This email template is part of my Prospect to Project package of email templates that you can see here.   By sending out reminder emails and gifts, you can remind your clients how much you appreciate their business.

These are five ideas that can help your marketing efforts. I hope these have given you food for thought. Implement these strategies to increase your visibility, attract new clients, and ultimately grow your revenue.
