How to Choose the Best Interior Design Business Management Software
Are you an interior designer struggling to choose the right business management software? With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to determine which one is the best fit for your needs. In this blog post, I'll share tips on how to choose the perfect software for your interior design business without the hassle.
One thing to note is that new apps and functionalities are added to the old apps all the time. I’ve tried to be as accurate as possible, but sometimes, information is not clear on the developer’s website. Please do your own due diligence and research.
Determine your needs
It's essential to know that there's no perfect software that can do everything for you. As an early adopter of various apps, I've come to learn that no all-in-one software can compete with dedicated ones that do one specific thing well. So, before you decide on any software, determine your needs and ask yourself what your business needs to thrive. Write a list of the apps that you already use and if you would like to keep using them. Figure this into your decision-making approach. When choosing the software to use, consider the software you already use and like and don't want to give up. Take that app capability out of your analysis and determine if the software you're considering can replace it. For example, if you use Harvest time tracker to track your time, don't give it up for a time tracker where you must manually enter the information.
2. Cost
In choosing the best interior design business management software, there are specific criteria to consider. First, look at the cost. Remember that just because a software is expensive doesn't mean it's the best, but don't fall for the cheapest one, either.
3. Location of developer
You also need to consider the location of the developer, as interior design is a location-based profession. Choose a platform that caters to the units of measurement and currency you use.
4. Integration
Integration is also essential. Look for software that links with accounting software like Quickbooks or Xero and scheduling apps to save you time.
5. Collaboration
Additionally, the user interface should be easy to navigate, and collaboration among clients, vendors, contractors, and trades should be seamless.
6. Information Management
Lastly, information management is critical for designers who need to store images, spec sheets, and contacts.
To help you understand what effective business management software can do for you, we've outlined the interior designer's tasks and the problems they face. An interior design project involves managing materials, fixtures, fittings, and equipment. Efficient software should help you manage these things and reduce friction between the various stages.
Therefore, effective business management software should help you manage your fees, record and justify your charges, schedule and procure materials and fittings, record design approval, manage tasks, and store information in one place, ready to be used or shared.
In summary, choosing the right business management software for your interior design business takes time and effort, but the benefits are worth it. Check out our comparison diagram and links to all the apps we discussed in the video to help you make an informed decision.
I’ve recorded a YouTube video that goes through these points in more detail. You can download a link to the comparison diagram below.
